Visit Haiti with HPSP

HPSP invites you to visit our projects in Haiti and the Dominican Republic. The island of Haiti & the Dominican Republic, as a whole, is known as Hispaniola (Little Spain). That name was given by 18th century colonizers who compared its beauty to part of Spain. Poverty is the only negative aspect of the entire region.

Due to Haiti’s valuable natural resources and history, it used to be called the pearl of the Antilles. Despite ecological disruptions, the mountainous chains throughout the island remain a beautiful landmark, which houses a distinctive flora and fauna.

Furthermore, Hispaniola offers the delightful exposure of two cultures existing side by side on one island. The western portion of the island consists of predominantly French and African descendants, whereas the eastern part is mostly Spanish.

Both countries are full of valuable historical sites that vividly bring back glorious moments of their courageous people.

Visitors are encouraged to participate in HPSP’s intercultural activities that promote cultural exchange and solidarity between these two neighbors.

The characteristics of the food in Haiti are simply exotic. Many Haitian chefs train in Paris to provide the most authentic French cuisine this side of the Atlantic. True to its "Creole" culture, the cooking is influenced by French, African, Latin American and Middle-Eastern cultures.

In addition to excellent cooking, Haitians and visitors still enjoy some of the most beautiful beaches in the world and scuba diving is still popular there. Many art galleries throughout the world pay tribute to Haitian artists for the fine quality of their paintings, sculptures, and handcrafts.
